Earlier this week, the Washington Post featured a story on the rise in online protests over the appointment of former Monsanto executive Michael Taylor as President Obama’s senior adviser to the FDA.

The article points out that Michael Taylor currently holds the position of deputy commissioner for foods at the FDA. This position is responsible for overseeing food labels and ensuring they contain clear and accurate information, as well as the development of strategies for food safety and planning new food safety legislation. This is the first time anyone has held this position at the FDA.

Michael Taylor’s resume at Monsanto is highlighted by his policy development related to Monsanto’s genetically engineered bovine growth hormone (rbGH/rbST).

There is a new online movement calling for Obama to cut ties with someone so obviously vested in the success of Monsanto and the bioengineering industry. Click here to sign the online petition.

You have to check out this video where an 11 year old rips Monsanto and Big Food. There is nothing quite as simultaneously disarming and delightful as a child speaking truth to humble a multinational conglomerate.

Franken-CORN?!!!

The article also notes that on Monday, Monsanto announced that it was giving up on its plans to sell GMO Franken-corn in France. The move was characterized as a major defeat for Big GMO, as six EU countries have banned the cultivation of GMO maize.  I wonder if anyone considered this for the headline of that story: France Finally Stops the Invasion of an Evil Empire. (Sorry, couldn’t resist. We love you France.)

REACTION

The absurdity of this situation and clear lack in judgment is almost rendering me speechless. Almost being the operative word here.

I think what strikes me most about this article is the relative hopelessness of our situation in the US, versus Europe. The European people and their government leaders are actually in agreement on the subject of preventing the genetic engineering of their food supply.

In the United States, 99% of the corn and soy grown is genetically modified. Over 90% of the market share in the seed industry is owned by six companies: Monsanto, BASF, Dow, DuPont, Bayer, and Syngenta.

The relationship between Monsanto and the FDA has been called a “revolving door”, and the lobbying efforts and dollars spent in Washington are staggering. And all of these efforts are geared towards two primary goals: 1) fooling the American people into thinking their food is safe and cheap and 2) driving profits for the shareholders.

It is time that we demand honesty, transparency and decency from our leadership—both corporate and political. If you agree with me, please take action. Sign the petition, but more importantly—don’t support Big GMO. Make living beyond organic a priority in your life as we work together to help shape the future of food production in our nation and world.

Day Twenty-One: Fasting Update

Here’s what some have noticed:
- closer relationship with God
- answered prayers – and quickly!
- addictions, bad habits and bondages broken
- divine revelations has been flowing
- hearing God’s voice more clearly
- improved health and energy
- food less important than it was before
- amazing opportunities and favor granted
- increased prosperity
- divine guidance
- divine appointments with amazing people

I have news for you. It NEVER has to stop! Continue to feed on the Word every day. The great evangelist of the last century, Smith Wigglesworth once said, “All lack of faith is due to not feeding on God’s Word.”

Come off the fast slowly. Tomorrow is not the day to “pig out” for goodness’ sake! Exercise the fruit of the Holy Spirit – the fruit of Self-Control (wow, that’s a new concept). Start adding foods back in slowly–foods you have been off the last 3 weeks.

Stay off some food you know are “triggers” to addictive behavior for you. Things like sugar, caffeine, processed foods, high fructose corn syrup, “junk” food, etc. And some behaviors you KNOW God has delivered you from (anger, self-pity, jealousy, greed, gossiping, guilt, regret, etc.)

He who the Son sets free is FREE indeed!!!

Lastly, I’d like to share with you a word I received in prayer the other day. I pray this for you, too — that you will DARE TO BELIEVE:

“Live so far in faith that you will FAIL if God doesn’t catch you and take you the rest of the way. This way, He gets ALL the glory!” Amen.

Day Twenty: Fasting Update

Reward #13: Relationships and Wastelands Restored!

I’ll tell you how the Lord turned a “wasteland” in my life into PraiseMoves. But first, have you included the restoration of relationships in your fast? Relationship between husband and wife, parents and children, and other family relations can be restored during your fast.

A dear friend of ours stood on this scripture for the salvation and restoration of her niece and extended family. By the following Christmas — VICTORY!!!

Do you have “wasted places” or “wastelands” in your life? Things you did before you came to Christ, or regrettable things you did even after you became a believer? God can and WILL turn it around if you let Him!

Plan A, B, C….L, M, N…Beauty for Ashes…

The Word says He gives us “beauty for ashes” (Isaiah 61:3), but we must give Him those habits, regrets, frustrations, addictions, guilty pleasures and secrets we hold only to ourselves. GIVE them to the Lord, let go and release them to Him. Allow them be consumed in the fire He is (“Our God is a consuming fire” Hebrews 12:29). What is left? Ashes. All that’s left is ashes. Ashes of the sin that once held you in bondage.

Fasting and prayer can take desolate lives and make them fruitful. Fasting can also take sins and regrets of the past and turn them into something wonderful to bring God glory.

THAT’S WHAT PRAISEMOVES IS!!! The Lord took the desolation of my 22 years in yoga (ages 7 to 29) and turned them into the fruitful harvest PraiseMoves Fitness Ministry has become.

He took my yoga and New Age past and turned it into “The Christian ALTERNATIVE to Yoga” — winning souls to Christ, restoring the breach, and enriching the relationships of believers with our dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through His Word WITHIN each PraiseMoves posture.

Think you’ve “blown it” or gone too far to ever be restored? God can! Think you “missed the boat” or “it’s too late”? God can!

Remember this word the Lord once told me when we were ministering to a friend who was in jail for some wrong choices he had made. “David, with God, Plan B, C, D or E can STILL be Plan A!”

And as the country preacher used to say, “An’ don’t let the devil talk ya outta it!” Amen!!!

Day Nineteen: Fasting Update

Reward #12: Once your health springs forth–God will keep you healthy through fasting!

You will also have a divine supply, meeting every need. Seem hard to believe? Not with our God. By looking to Him as your heavenly source of supply, you will realize that you ARE “like a watered garden” (watered from above!), and “like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.”

WHO is the Source of that constant, never-failing spring? The Fountain of Life Himself, the Lord God. Glory to Him forevermore! Fasting helps us see that we do not live from paycheck to paycheck. The Lord is our food, our Source, our all-in-all who will never forsake us. It helps us to see that the One who made you, in God’s economy, will never let the righteous go hungry. He IS your provider!

No matter what the news or circumstances may say, you KNOW you have the Lord who provides. One of His redemptive names is just that! Jehovah Jireh — God, your Provider. The Psalmist wrote, “I have never seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” That’s YOU! That means your children (your seed).

We’re almost done with our 21-day fast, but you can continue to fast one day a week, or one meal a day, or several times a year–however the Lord leads you. Breakthroughs can be YOUR continual lifestyle in the mighty name of Yeshua Ha’Mashiach (Jesus the Messiah)!

Reward #11: The Lord will guide you continually!

When our PraiseMoves ministry was really beginning to grow, my husband Paul and I realized we could not do everything ourselves. We would need help.

Nola Jeanne Baird and her husband Lloyd usually sat behind us at church. One Sunday morning in April 2006, I suddenly felt impressed to ask Nola if she would be our Administrative Assistant. Now almost six years later, Nola is not only our Administrative Assistant and Number One Prayer Warrior, she is also a CPI, CPI Trainer and PraiseMoves’ CPI Coordinator, overseeing our Certified PraiseMoves Instructors worldwide. I do not know how we could have ever done without her!

God’s guidance is like that. Sometimes we sense a faint impression—something just seems “right” about a certain decision, or going in a certain direction. You feel what my husband calls “warm velvet” on the inside of you – the peace of the Lord that “surpasses understanding.”

At other times, you will feel a definite “Stop! Don’t go there!” or “Don’t say that!” Other times God’s leading may come as a “check” in the spirit—something just doesn’t feel right about a certain direction you are going.

All of that is God’s still, small voice. You may even hear words with your inner ear—or an audible voice on very, very rare occasions (but it does happen).

Seasoned saints have said that the longer we walk with the Lord, the finer His voice and calling becomes—finer, yet clearer than crystal. You know-that-you-know it is Him.

Fasting makes you more sensitive to His voice and leading. Will you follow?

Day Seventeen: Fasting Update

Reward #10: Your Light Shall Rise from Obscurity

What does this mean? Through prayer and fasting, you will rise out of obscurity and onto the path God has for you.

Peter wrote in 1 Peter 5:6-7–When you “humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, He will exalt you (lift you up) in due time” and here’s an important part of that verse, “casting the all (the WHOLE) of your care on Him, because He cares for you.” It’s the Lord’s  job to care for you and see to your success in life, not yours. Isn’t that good to know?

A Young Man Rises Out of Obscurity

I read the story of a young man who, before entering college, took a number of aptitude tests with professional counselors to see what sort of work he should be doing. They felt he would be good at engineering.

“Well, I thought God was calling me to be a minister,” he said, hopefully.

“Oh, no. You would not do well at that at all!” they said. “Do yourself a favor and go into engineering.”

The young man took engineering classes for three years and never felt fully satisfied. The call of God was in his heart and on his life. He decided to leave college, fast and seek the Lord. During his time of fasting, the Lord showed him His plan for the young man’s life.

He humbled himself before God and allowed the Creator of the Universe to exalt him, to lift him out of obscurity. Today he is the pastor of the largest church in his city and knows he is on the path to the fulfillment of God’s plan for him — which he discovered by seeking God in fasting and prayer.

If you are struggling and wondering what is God’s plan for you–fast and pray. Seek the Lord. Humble yourself before Him. I have literally gone face-down in the dark brown Oklahoma dirt before the Lord. How low can you go? How surrendered to Him and His will are YOU willing to be? You hear Him best when you are humble (for some that may first mean “broken”).

Humble yourself first beneath His mighty LOVING hand (stroking the top of your head, as you would a dear child). He will exalt and lift you up in due time. I think you’re due. How about you?

Day Sixteen: Fasting Update

Reward #9: You shall call to the LORD and He will answer you — QUICKLY!

It is marvelous to have prayers answered. And you will find your prayers answered more quickly when you fast – as well as directly after you fast.

Have any of you found this to be true yet? This has happened to me even today. My friend Lisa and I were working on a computer problem (she’s in New Jersey and I’m in northeastern Oklahoma). Specifically, she was looking for a lost file. We prayed, asking the Lord to help us (and binding the enemy from hiding it from us in the name of Jesus!).

At the same moment she said, “I wonder if it’s…” — I immediately said “There it is!” Lisa suddenly said, “There it is!!! Wait. How did you know that?” Answered prayer!

What are you believing God for? Expect a quick reply when you are fasting. Your sensitivity to His voice and leading is heightened when you fast.

Call on the Lord and He will say, “He I am!” Thank You, Lord!

Day Fifteen: Fasting Update

Reward #8: Righteousness going before you and the Glory of the Lord will be your rear guard.

In the King James version, “rear guard” is translated “rereward,” which means: a. inheritance c. provision b. rear guard d. rest.

We have all experienced adversity and challenging experiences. Isn’t it good to know that you have a shield of protection before you and behind you?

The Glory — the manifested presence “heavy with everything good” and magnificence — of the Lord will be your rear guard. No wonder the Armor of the Lord in Ephesians 6 only has armor for the FRONT of you. You don’t need any thing else when you have the Glory of the Lord!!!

Do it Now — Put on the Armor of God!

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; ¹⁶ above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;  praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:10-18).
