Sister Aimee - 1939       Aimee Semple McPherson and the Angelus Temple in Los Angeles she founded in the 1920s

Founder of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, Aimee Semple McPherson (above) and the Angelus Temple in Los Angeles, CA.  In the early 1920’s she became the first woman to hold a radio license, and started the first-ever Christian radio station (one of only 3 radio stations in Los Angeles at the time!).  Angelus Temple is now home to the Los Angeles Dream Center with Pastor Matthew Barnett.

“I had the happy privilege of seeing the ministry of Laurette Willis (as Sister Aimee) and visiting with her personally.

“She combines true talent with an authentic spiritual heart.

“It is a joy to recommend her.”

Laurette portrays “Sister Aimee” as she appeared in 1938 during a sermon she gave at Angelus Temple in Los Angeles.

As an introduction, the audience watches a brief video of the life and legacy of the founder of the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.  You will hear and see film clips from the 1930s and 1940s of the woman who helped pave the way for many men and women in Christian service today.

After the short video, Laurette takes us back to the Angelus Temple in 1938.  Dressed in white with the navy blue cape, shield and cross Sister Aimee often wore, Laurette portrays the Foursquare founder and presents her powerful sermon, “Divine Healing in the Word of the Living God.”

At the close of the sermon Aimee herself said, “Now Lord, let this message ring into hearts and souls tonight.  Let it live on and never die.  Take this message Lord, and make it a blessing to all to whom it shall come in Jesus’ name we ask it.  Amen.”

From Laurette: “It is my sincere hope that Sister Aimee’s prayer is answered and that this portrayal is indeed a blessing to all who hear it.”

Perhaps wacky comedy is the order of the day. Take a nostalgic musical comedy look at the 1940s in The Nutty ‘40s Radio Show.      About Aimee Semple McPherson:

The early 20th century evangelist, Aimee Semple McPherson, was a pioneer of women in religion. Having experienced a profound religious conversion at age seventeen, Aimee began preaching across the United States and later, the world. In 1918, she established her base in Los Angeles, California, where in 1923, the 5,300 seat Angelus Temple was dedicated and became the center of her revival, healing and benevolent ministries. She was the first woman to receive a FCC radio license and was a pioneer religious broadcaster. Her sermons were the first to incorporate the contemporary communications of that day into her preaching of the Gospel. From Angelus Temple she performed an extensive social ministry, providing hot meals for more than 1.5 million people during the Great Depression. She summarized her message into four major points known as "The Foursquare Gospel," and founded a denomination called The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel.
