DAY ONE. “Trust (lean on, rely on, and be confident) in the Lord and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and feed surely on His faithfulness, and truly you shall be fed. Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He will give you the desires and secret petitions of your heart” (Psalm 37:3-4, Amplified).
I think this may be one of the most difficult things for many of us to do. We may not have a problem delighting ourselves in the Lord when we know we can have our favorite treat in a few minutes, or later on in the day.
But delighting ourselves in the Lord INSTEAD of food – especially our favorite treat? Oh me — HOW can we do that?!!!
Delight = Be soft & pliable
Interestingly, the word translated “delight” in Psalm 37:4 is actually anag (pronounced aw-nahg) which means to be soft and pliable (like clay in the hands of the Master Potter!).
Ready to cave in — or thinking of food-ing instead of fast-ing?
Here's what helps me: Praise FAST!!! As fast as I can I begin praising and thanking the Lord. As soon as I feel my resolve fading, I quickly switch into focusing on the Lord and praising Him–rejoicing and delighting myself in Him, thus making myself pliable in His hands instead of conforming to the desires of my flesh nature.
Does it work?
Absolutely! When you take action, and by faith delight yourself in the Lord (becoming pliable like clay in the hands of the Master), He fills your renewed vessel with a fulness that comes from pure joy!
And what is your strength? Yes! “The JOY of the Lord is your strength!” (Neh. 8:10).
Why not DO IT right now! Don't just “try it” — let's actually DO it!
Repeat out loud: “I thank You, Lord, that You give me the desires of my heart when I delight myself in You. Oh, it is so easy to rejoice in Your love and delight myself in You – to be molded like clay in Your hands. I love You, Father God! I love You, Lord Jesus! I love You, precious Holy Spirit! I praise You! I worship and adore You, most holy, holy Lord God! Glory to You forevermore!!! Dear Lord, please fill me to the full with Your joy and your love by your precious Holy Spirit. I am filled to overflowing with the Joy of the Lord! Hallelujah! Thank You, Lord, for giving me the desires of my heart!”
WOW! How do you feel now?
